Unfortunately, this is probably the number needed to get a profit from production. This is the state of the gaming industry and why you see many developers sticking to only sequels to well known IPs or selling to bigger publishers.

A lot of the games released were niche games, you’re not going to get much marketing for games like those. And as I said in another comment, Square will probably stop making those all together or for a good while.
