I agree. Souls games are something I have specifically avoided because I know they aren’t for me. Ive given most of them a shot and I just don’t really desire that level of challenge in my leisure time. Its the devs choice to make their games however they want, full stop. If they want to reach a wider audience than they will make accommodations. For those that want to experience the story in games that they can’t come to grips with, there are plenty of content creators out there.
That said, I found the standard difficulty of Dread challenging but very doable. Most bosses I died at least once to with a few taking 3-5 tries before I was able to beat them. I loved the game and am looking forward to my next playthrough.
