@raomboforlife — you’re response is genuinely funny. I know that sounds sarcastic and I did genuinely laugh.
With that said, there is a level of truth to poorly articulated statement above: “You can’t however go to someone elses platform and do whatever you want.” That is pretty true. N4G bans people for terrible statements made in the forums. Out in the real world, we cannot yell fire in a theatre or bomb on a plane, etc. The scope for freedom of speech was never intended to be as wide as most perceive (this is a nice way of saying “a lot of people do not have an understanding of what freedom of speech means”).
A concern for the past decade-plus when it comes to freedom of speech is the distribution of information, in the media and social networks. I agree with Phil’s sentiment, XBox is not a platform for political speech. That is not to say that people do not hop into parties or game chats and harass people and there is a reason why people have a reporting option.
The crazy vocal minority on both sides have successfully found a way to make it so people connect their socializing with their political affiliation, it’s sad. I enjoy meeting random people on xbox, chatting, laugh and playing — no one cares about anyone’s voting record or vax status. That has to do with a platform consciously choosing what to allow within their product.
What did Phil Spencer mean by Xbox is not a free speech platform?
