Review: God of War feels so much better on PC | VGC

“they have what 19 first party studios working on games for ps5. To port those titles to pc would take 19 studios”

Except it won’t… how many of those 19 studios are releasing games this year? A handful at the most. And the porting studio doesn’t have to rewrite the entire game, the time consuming parts of the design/development are already done. You’re talking about basically changing to support DirectX (which the engine may already support), adding support for some extra controllers, some Steam functionality, testing & optimization, etc. Sony exclusives typically don’t include online multiplayer, so you shave a bunch of porting time off there too. Definitely not an entire multi-year AAA game dev cycle.

“here’s every reason to believe it will take as long as 4 years”

4 years to port a game!? If they want to port these games they could do it in under a year easy, and could do it during the development of the PS4/5 release for a day 1 launch.

Also once the engine has been ported once to PC, the bulk of the work is done and future ports become easier. Sony engines such as Decima etc didn’t have PC support for things like DirectX, Steam etc – they now do.

Realistically, Sony launching games on PC day 1 won’t really impact PS5 hardware or software sales. I would still have bought my PS5 and would still have bought Sony games on it had the games been available on PC day 1. Sony know this too, it’s clear where this is going.
