Is E3 Really Necessary Anymore?

Do you honestly still believe it’s the biggest video game expo anymore?

Most manufacturers are shifting to things like Paris games week, pax, game awards etc

Long time industry fan myself I used to have E3 marked on my calendar and it traditionally fell on a public holiday for day 1 for me in Australia so I’d spend the day watching it and day 2 I’d religiously also stream it day 3 not so much but still.

The last three years of E3 have been average at best the industry doesn’t allow for surprises anymore pretty much everything leaks ahead of time and a lot of Devs are releasing their trailers a day before E3 so they don’t get lost in the sea of attention.

Just saying the world’s not the same as it was 10 years ago and there’s so many other events spread through the year the relevance of E3 is faded Microsoft was the only one that made a real showcase of E3 last year. Sony was a no show again and take two gave a hr presentation about workplace culture.

I loved E3 but I believe it needed to show up in a big way last year to save itself and it failed to do so
