Xbox Series X vs PS5: Which Console Had the Better Year in 2021?

Personally speaking, 2021 was the year I got all three. Series in Feb, PS5 in March and Switch (finally) in Nov. Of the three I know I spent more $$ on games for the Switch because i went on a spending spree after having gotten it. My kids had their own and while I could have been buying games to play on theirs… they were still theirs. i needed one of my own. bought a combination of 33 games (digital/physical) in less than 30 days. I have NEVER done that before, and i have been gaming since Pong in the 70’s.

On the XB side, Gamepass has been great to let me try before I buy and I did just that. There were several games I bought as a result of playing them in GP. Dirt 5, Forza Horizon 5, Halo infinite, The Medium (see below), The Falconeer… Ones I liked that i wanted to have in physical form. Some I’d like to buy but are not in physical would be Psychonauts 2 and Cuphead (but that last one is rumored to be coming after the DLC).

PS5 I am sad to say I did not spend as much on you as the others. But 2022 is looking to rectify that with GoW, Horizon FW and GT7 coming. The games i did buy for it are The Medium (yes after having played it in GP), Rift Apart, DMC5 Special Edition, Alan Wake Remastered, Oddworld and of course Spider-man MM.

No matter how you slice it, I know I have my hands full of great games to play across the board with many many more to come. If there is a winner it is the gamers who are fortunate to get one of these fine systems and reap the benefits of what they sow.
