Final Fantasy VII Remake PC Version Runs Well But Leaves Us Wanting

While UE4 is very extensible how far that goes is very dependant on what version of the Engine is being used. What is built into the engine is also dependant on what version is being used. In Addition a developer might lock the version at some point meaning they stop upgrading the engine version.

FF7R Intergrade is still on version 4.18 so DLSS is not a simple plugin that be can switched on and raytracing is also not a simple implementation like it is in later versions. The developers must weigh the cost of upgrading the version they are on or manually integrating newer technologies into older versions of the Engine. Each choice comes with their own trade offs.

The more you customize UE4 the harder it is to upgrade without potentially breaking your own tools. Mortal Combat 11 uses a heavily customized UE3 rather than using UE4. That means any technology that is currently built into UE4 is unusable unless they add it manually or build equivalent tech.

The decision to integrate DLSS, turf effects or raytracing into the luminous tool is much more straight forward.
