@porkchop I simply stated a fact. Textures are the #1 reason for large game sizes. Nintendo notoriously uses styles with very sparse texture usage, and often time uses none at all. Look at this article’s other example of Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury, which uses 3gb of space. Metroid Dread’s 4.1gb is comparable.
In an article about increasing game file sizes here, PC Gamer says, quote, “It’s the textures above all, and nothing is going to stop them.”:
If a game hardly uses textures, it is to be expected that the size of the game file will drop considerably than if it were heavy on textures.
There are other major contributing factors such as audio, music. I would imagine Metroid doesn’t have an exceptionally large soundtrack, and compression techniques continue to improve over time.
I’d say, you missed my point.
