If any developer is to be called lazy, look at the platform holder first. My company is building a new application in Microsoft’s newish .NET MAUI framework and after working in it for the last 3-4 months almost daily, I cannot believe how completely and utterly unstable it is.
[.NET MAUI is their multiplatform application UI framework that succeeds (and is built off) Xamarin. Build once, target Windows/iOS/Android with a shared codebase.]
I would hope that the Xbox dev tools are clean and polished by now (which they reportedly weren’t at launch in 2020), because if they are anything even close to how awful MAUI is, THAT will hold back Xbox much more than the Series S just being weaker.
As for Xbox Series S holding back the entire generation – it’s not, and it won’t. Baldur’s Gate 3 being announced for PS5 without an exclusivity agreement is our first true sign of that. It may hold Xbox back, though.
