Batman adjacent stuff works because of the implication of Batman. DC comics with Batman canon that are not directly about Batman are written around him being constantly stealth referenced with fear or in hushed whispers for maximum effect(or after his supposed death, with quiet reverence, guilt, or anger).
I don’t know much, but if you are telling me Batman isn’t a constant metaphysical(if not actually physical) presence during the entire game, well we’ll see. If not, I bet the game is not well received. That is what fans expect.
To step out of Batman’s shadow you need to step out of the DC universe. IMO, the only reason this isn’t another Batman game is because the powers that be feel like they need more time between Batman games so that they remain special to the fandom, but make no mistake, Batman will return to AAA games and soon, imo.
